Spring is here and the birds are busy building nests so now is the time to talk about nesting material. Not all nesting material is good. Putting out dog hair, horse hair, wool and natural feathers is a great idea, just make sure it has not been dyed, treated or bleached. Do not use dryer lint at all, whether you have used fabric softener or not. If fabric softener has been used it has chemicals in it that are not good for the birds and if it does not have chemicals on it the lint will actually disintegrate. Hang the right materials close to the birdhouse and use a suet feeder to place the nesting materials into. Get it out now and watch the fun in your backyard.
